Dr. Ronen Shay is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Media and Communication at St. John Fisher College. He received his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Florida. His research is focused on contemporary challenges in the fields of media management, strategic communication, and communication technology. His research includes papers written on: windowed distribution strategies, Snapchat advertising, and the diffusion of new technologies, including tablets, alternative banking, and pure play transactions. Some of his published works can be found in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, the Handbook of Media Branding, and The International Journal on Media Management.
Dr. Shay has presented his research at AEJMC, BEA, and ICA national conferences, the University of Zurich’s media branding symposium, the 6th Media and the Public Sphere International Conference, and the 11th World Media Economics and Management Conference in Rio de Janeiro. He has received top paper awards from the Management, Marketing and Programming Division of BEA (2015) and the Media Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship division of AEJMC (2013-2015). The aforementioned accomplishments are supported by an M.A. in New Media from the University of Amsterdam, and an Honors B.A. in Communications from the University of Toronto.
In September 2015, Dr. Shay joined the faculty of the Department of Media and Communication at St. John Fisher College, in Rochester, New York. His fall 2017 course offerings include: Media Entrepreneurship; Introduction to Advertising; Business Communication; and a service-learning Web Analytics class where students use real-world Google Analytics data to analyze and report on the performance of community partners (e.g., Rochester Fringe Festival and CDS Wolf Foundation). His industry experience includes project management roles at Rogers Communications, North by Northeast, and startup Random Sounds, a freelance concert production service co-founded by Dr. Shay, that successfully served clients in the Greater Toronto Area from 2001-2005. Dr. Shay also holds professional certifications in project management (PMP) and digital communication.
